For many Indigenous peoples of Taiwan, singing is far more than artistic expression. It is a living vessel of memory, history, and cultural transmission. Through centuries of colonial rule, forced displacement, and cultural assimilation, songs have preserved Indigenous languages, identities, and connections to ancestral lands. In this talk, Ipo DEMALANDAS, guitarist of the Nanwang Sisters and Pinuyumayan Peoples' Representative on Taiwan's Council of Indigenous Peoples, shares how the group uses music to preserve Pinuyumayan culture. Drawing from his own experience, he explores how song records history, heals historical trauma, and carries Indigenous culture forward across generations. This event will be conducted in Mandarin.
