Travelog | Poland edition – Pre-reading Session
About the event
About the Programme
Travelog is a community book club series that serves as your passport to a journey of cultural exploration and immersion. Together, we'll tap into the mentality and lived experience of the local perspective. Through literary immersion, we'll sink deep into the heart and soul of a country, bringing more depth and dimension to your next bucket list destination.
This iteration features heavyweights from Poland! No one weighs the significance of time quite like Polish writers. Historically, the Polish view time not as a linear, ticking clock, but as a canvas of collective memory, tied deeply to the country's history of disappearing and reappearing as a sovereign nation.
Join us for a journey through the constellation of time, examining Olga Tokarczuk's Flights and Ryszard Kapuściński's Another Day of Life, a journalistic account from the frontlines of the 1975 Angolan Civil War, to better understand what it means to be human in a fleeting world defined by displacement and liminality.
Featured titles:
• Flights by Olga Tokarczuk
• Another Day of Life by Ryszard Kapuściński
Everyone is welcome, whether you're an avid reader, a casual reader, or not a reader at all! This pre-reading session will give you the lay of the land as our friendly facilitator maps out the books for you: introducing key themes and connections between both literary works and presenting you with questions to keep in mind while you embark on your reading journey.
We will gather again on 26 November 2026 for our Book Party session, where we’ll engage in a lively group discussion about the titles that we’ve read. You may write to read@nlb.gov.sg if you have questions about this programme.
