Movie discussion - watch beforehand. Open spoilers. Short summary Some psychological thrillers get less disturbing with age. Perfect Blue did the opposite. It feels more current now because the world caught up to the nightmare: image, performance, fandom, obsession, identity collapse, public fantasy, private fear, and the strange violence of being watched too closely. This is not just a “creepy anime movie.” It is a film about what happens when a person’s public image starts becoming more powerful than the person herself. Mima tries to change her life, change her career, and become someone new. But everyone around her seems to want ownership over what she used to be, what she should be, what they fantasize she is, or what they need her to remain. That is why this one deserves a room. Not anime trivia. Not shock-value discussion. Not everyone trying to explain the plot like a puzzle box. A real conversation about celebrity, identity, performance, surveillance, misogyny, fandom, and the horror of losing control over your own image. A few questions already sitting in my head
