Symposium – Anywhere, Everywhere
About the event
Join us for Anywhere, Everywhere, a series of conversations around the ‘Global Positioning System’ exhibition. Artists and researchers will come together to discuss cartography and navigation as instruments of power that enable transport and trade, shape worldviews, annotate belonging and transformation. Speakers include local and international artists and researchers Fatma Al Ali, Vikram Divecha, Suha Hassan, Mohammed Kazem, Ahmet Öğut, Tina Sherwell, Vishwa Shroff, Tatyana Zambrano, and Art Jameel curators Indranjan Banerjee and Lucas Morin. Centred on the artists’ practices, the day moves across several lines of inquiry. Ahmet Öğut and Tatyana Zambrano trace cars and automobile infrastructure, and how trade in vehicles carries deeper global politics. Fatma Al Ali and Tina Sherwell sit with landscapes and the histories they held within, considering the geological scale, such as the UAE’s ancient waterways, and the scale of the urban fabric. Mohammed Kazem, Vishwa Shroff and Vikram Divecha turn to architecture, conceptual gestures and the essence of finding one’s way.
