Booker Prize-winning author Sir Ben Okri and renowned artist Rosemary Clunie have collaborated together on text and image projects for nearly a decade. Their new book ‘The True Artist Breaks Out of Jail’ addresses questions of life in our times through the potent energies of poetry and painting. It journeys into the human spirit and its yearning for truth and authenticity as it examines key contemporary subjects ranging from war and climate change to the wounds and wonders of the human psyche. Join Okri and Clunie as they discuss their new book, accompanied by readings from Okri and images of their paintings. They will be joined in conversation by writer and Director of Content at Lisson Gallery, Ossian Ward. Together, they will explore the creative dialogue between images and words, drawing inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci and Paul Cezanne, to Jane Austen and Virginia Woolf. Combining personal reflection with fragments of fiction, Okri and Clunie appeal to the two ancient aspects of brain and spirit in all of us – art and language.
