SHACKLED: A Horror Movie Escape Game

Think you know your horror movies? Now you’ll have to prove it, all while one of your team members are literally chained to the wall.

This October, Trivia Escape Rooms is bringing back its fan-favourite horror experience, SHACKLED: A Horror Movie Escape Game, for one month only. From October 15 to November 15, 2026, players will enter a twisted study of horror, where their knowledge of classic slasher films is just as important as their ability to solve puzzles, crack codes and escape within an hour.

Think you can tell Saw from Scream? Know your Halloween from your Friday the 13th? You’ll need that knowledge, and a little nerve, to make it out.

The premise is simple: you wake up in a dark room. One of you is chained to the wall. A mysterious voice gives you 60 minutes to escape. The clues are hidden, the traps are set, and your horror-movie knowledge may be the only thing standing between you and becoming the next victims.

“I wanted to make something that felt different from the generic haunted-house or horror escape-room experience,” says Darren Leu, owner of Trivia Escape Rooms. “SHACKLED is part escape game, part horror-movie trivia, and part ridiculous fun. If you’re a horror fan, you’ll recognize things you love, but you’ll also have to actually use that knowledge to get out.”

Unlike a traditional escape room, SHACKLED puts pop-culture knowledge at the centre of the experience. Players must recognize references to classic horror films, answer trivia, solve puzzles and work together to unlock their escape, all while dealing with the added complication of being, quite literally, shackled and a wall closing in on you.

Trivia Escape Rooms is a Black-owned, artist-run escape-game business in Toronto known for its handcrafted, analogue experiences and highly detailed, nostalgic sets. Rather than relying on generic escape-room formulas, the business combines trivia, puzzles and immersive environments to create games designed specifically for pop-culture fans.
