Most of the galleries in Bethesda have lined up to have their opening receptions on the same night - and Amy Kaslow will continue her excellent show. So this should be very enjoyable. We'll start at Waverly, then head to Studio B, Gallery B, Amy Kaslow and Triangle. We'll have a couple dinner options after.

At Waverly, Transcendent Terrains: Outer Landscapes and Inner Temples by Sarah Spector
These bold “Abstract Landscapes” are vividly colorful, playfully expressive, and strikingly original compositions of varying sizes. Featured also are dreamlike, shimmering 3’ by 3’ color field paintings. There is also an extensive miniature landscape series of Block Island covering one wall.
At Amy Kaslow, Marilyn Gates-Davis trains her lens on Washington, D.C. to show a town, a familiar place where locals sit on stoops and walk to corner stores, where kids play basketball on makeshift courts and elders shoot the breeze. A majority of the black population in her focus resides southeast of the Anacostia River.
At Gallery B, The Trawick Prize: Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards produced by the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District honors artists from Maryland, Washington, D.C. & Virginia.
Eight finalists will be selected for consideration for Trawick Prize.
At Triangle, Eleanor Tanno’s collection of paintings (pictured) of interior spaces is a celebration of shedding light on intimate spaces. Each painting explores the duality of feeling both the safety of home and mystery of being in an unfamiliar space. She used a water-based medium, called gouache (rhymes with squash) for this collection. Gouache is applied to paper like traditional watercolor paint, but differs in that it is not transparent. Its opaqueness allows gouache to be layered to render more vivid colors, similar to oil paint.
