About the event
π Asians & Gingers in Tech β Friday 2nd October!
First of all, a big thank you to everyone who came to our last event! The turnout was far beyond my expectations, and I'm incredibly grateful for all the feedback and suggestions you've given me.
And welcome to our new home every month at The Ship in the City of London! π»
As promised, I've set up our WhatsApp group so we can keep the conversation going between events, share ideas, and organise things together.
π Please join the WhatsApp group here: [Join the Asians & Gingers in Tech WhatsApp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Eon15DZXYsbJBGh0D94S7p)
I've already started putting your suggestions into action by speaking with the bar manager, and we're booked in for our next event on Friday 2nd October! π The relationship with the venue is only going to get better, and they've agreed to the suggestions you've made for our next event.

π² WHAT'S HAPPENING?
We'll have both upstairs and downstairs, with different activities happening throughout the evening.
π² Board Games β Upstairs
YES! The staff will set up the tables at the far end of upstairs specifically for board games. It would be great to plan ahead of time which games to bring and have someone teach our fellow community members how to play them. This idea was suggested by 4 different members, so let's make it happen!
π Any volunteers to lead the board games? If you've got a favourite game you're willing to bring and teach, let us know!
π― Darts β Upstairs
YES! We'll also have darts upstairs, although we'll only use one of the two dart boards. @Poonam, I think you could help lead this one! π Would you be up for teaching everyone the rules, how to play darts, and maybe some throwing techniques?;) Let's see who secretly has professional-level darts skills.
π‘ 5-Minute Lightning Talks β Downstairs
YES! I'm thinking we'll do this downstairs before the karaoke. A few of you mentioned that you'd like to have short talks for knowledge sharing, self-introductions, and networking. I'm thinking around 45 minutes total, with roughly 5β6 talks.
Each talk is only 5 minutes, so there's no need for anything polished or overly serious. Just share something you think the community might find interesting or useful or intro what you do!
@Dinesh, may I ask you to help lead this on the day and encourage people to pre-sign up so you can put together a schedule beforehand? Then we'll switch over to karaoke once we're a bit more merry from drinking haha. ππ»
π€ Karaoke β Downstairs
YES! This was a big request from many of you, so we're making it happen! The bar manager will help arrange in-house karaoke downstairs. I'll need to go in beforehand and test the systems with the staff to get everything working properly before our next event. So yes... karaoke is officially happening. ππ€
π£ Sushi β For Everyone
YES! I'll make this happen! Thanks again to everyone who bought me drinks last time. β€οΈ I'll take care of the food arrangements again, so there'll be sushi available for everyone. I will, however, need to remember to bring some paper plates and more cutlery this time! π
β»οΈ A quick note about food: I'll be arranging the food, but I unfortunately can't guarantee anything for allergies, vegetarian/vegan or halal requirements. If you have dietary restrictions, please don't rely on the food provided and make sure you bring or grab something that works for you.

π» SUPPORT THE VENUE
They've given us this space on the proviso that we spend at the bar, so please support The Ship and our community by grabbing some drinks while you're there! The relationship with the venue is important to me, and the more we support them, the more we can hopefully do together in the future.
*
π‘ THIS IS YOUR COMMUNITY
The original idea was simply to come along and socialise, but you've given me loads of suggestions for things you'd actually like to do.
So we're going to experiment!
Maybe the board games become a regular thing. Maybe darts getsβ¦
