Lucius Glantz (magnificent Willem Dafoe) has served as concierge at Vienna's InterContinental hotel for several decades – the first such luxurious place to appear on Europe's map. From morning to night he oversees every aspect of the institution's operations, attending to the smallest details.
One day Lucius learns that the hotel will be sold to a new owner who plans its radical renovation. Lucius undertakes an unequal struggle to save the hotel – and his workplace, which for years has been his true home.
Appreciated at the Venice festival, "The Last Concierge" directed by master of Argentine cinema Gastón Solnicki, is a lyrical and moving story about transience and the necessity of being needed. And also about how one must always be ready for a new chapter in life. Solnicki navigates between gravity and irony with extraordinary precision.
His film evokes on one hand the best titles of Jim Jarmusch, and on the other somewhat recalls a sarcastic response to "The Grand Budapest Hotel". Magnificent cinematography by Rui Poças highlights the acting talent of Willem Dafoe – one of the most interesting character actors in cinema history, who in "The Last Concierge" shines as never before.
