Naomi Okubo is making her first Canadian debut with a collection of paintings for the exhibition The Conservatory at Gallery 1888.
For this exhibition, Okubo presents her ongoing Collector series, which explores the human desire to know and collect. This desire emerges from curiosity and a longing to understand the world, while also containing an impulse to possess, categorize, and enclose its objects. Through this series, Okubo examines the tension between fascination and control embedded within the act of collecting.
