Speed Friending at the Library for Newcomers

Are you new to Vancouver and finding it tough to make friends? Maybe English is your second language or one of the many languages you speak and you want a comfortable space to chat with new people. We're here to help! Bring your favourite book, e-book, graphic novel, DVD, podcast, blog or zine to discuss at this fun, casual, in-person event at Central Library. You'll have six minutes with each person to chat about the item you brought and see if there is a friendship connection. At the very least you'll have a bunch of interesting conversations with people who share similar interests. This event is open to all with limited space available and takes place in the Alice MacKay room in the Lower Level of the Central Library. Registration is required and this event will be capped at 100 people, so sign up early! ***If this event shows full please sign up to be on the waitlist, so you will be the first to know about subsequent events if you don't get moved to the registered list before the event. ***To locate the Alice MacKay Room on the lower level, take the stairs before you reach the main entrance and it will be the room right at the bottom of the stairs. Elevator access is also available and is located directly across from the main entrance near the bank machine. --- Accessibility: VPL is committed to making our programs accessible for all. If you have an access need that we have not addressed here, please email us at programs@vpl.ca. Elevator access to the Alice MacKay is available in the concourse near the bank machine. The Alice MacKay Room has wheelchair accessible spaces available. Alternate styles of seating may be available, if you require another type of chair, please email us.
