YALA Mohamed Abd El Hafeez/Bilal El Aoumari
About the event
Step into the world of YALA: a vibrant and energetic theatre performance in which rhythm, music, poetry and humour come together. YALA is a personal and physical quest for origins, identity and the question of what it means to feel at home between different worlds, to be seen at theater Bellevue. A personal journey through his life, family, culture and roots
In YALA Mohamed Abd El Hafeez takes the audience on a personal journey through memories, family, culture and the Egyptian roots he grew up with. From his own Egyptian-Dutch background, he explores what you carry with you from the place you come from — and what happens when you try to determine who you want to be yourself.
With live music, dance, storytelling and humor, a performance is created that constantly moves between the personal and the collective. Egyptian culture and traditions form the starting point, but YALA is ultimately about something universal: the search for connection, for a place where you can be yourself and for the stories that connect us to one another.
After two sold-out performances during the Reuringsfestival 2025 at Podium Mozaïek, YALA was previously performed at Theater Bellevue. The performance on 5 December was also sold out. On 10 October, YALA returns once again to the Grote Zaal of Theater Bellevue.
YALA is raw and warm, funny and moving, personal and at the same time recognizable. A performance that not only looks at cultural identity, but above all invites you to experience, laugh and meet each other together.
