“Io sono un santo”: recita la scritta in corsivo su una carta intelata, lacerata in superficie da una serie di tagli. È uno dei primi esempi dell’inconfondibile gesto artistico che renderà celebre Lucio Fontana. Il retro, però, riporta la frase “Io sono una carogna”. Si compone così un ironico autoritratto, dissacrante nei confronti di quella retorica che vorrebbe l’artista capace di elevare sé stesso e lo spettatore attraverso l’arte.L’opera è il punto di partenza di Tragicomica. Prospettive sull’arte italiana dal secondo Novecento a oggi, la più ampia mostra mai dedicata dal Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo alla storia dell’arte italiana contemporanea.Prodotta dal MAXXI in collaborazione con il Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, l’esposizione – a cura di Andrea Bellini e Francesco Stocchi – riunisce oltre 130 artisti e 300 opere, per indagare la componente ironica che attraversa la cultura italiana, quella che il filosofo Giorgio Agamben definì “caparbia intenzione anti-tragica” (Categorie italiane, 1996).Più che un semplice atteggiamento, una vera e propria sensibilità nazionale che trova nella Comedìa dantesca il suo primo e più alto riferimento: nella rivoluzione di affrontare i temi più complessi attraverso un registro legato alla quotidianità, intrecciando in un continuo e fertile scambio cultura “alta” e cultura popolare.L’arco temporale della mostra attraversa oltre ottant’anni, dal secondo dopoguerra a oggi, soffermandosi sugli artisti che hanno fatto di questa tensione tra tragico e comico il centro della propria poetica e del proprio sguardo sul mondo. Ne emerge un racconto alternativo dell’arte italiana, che scompiglia il canone, ampliandolo e restituendo una lettura stratificata e alternativa della storia dell’arte nazionale.Con questo spirito, le
