This lecture explores Antoni Gaudí's distinctive approach to religious architecture through case studies including churches commissioned for Tangier and the Colònia Güell in Barcelona, alongside the Sagrada Família Temple. Marking the centenary of Gaudí's death, the presentation places these celebrated structures alongside lesser-known ecclesiastical commissions to establish his originality and lasting influence on world architecture.
Speaker: Concepción PEIG GINABREDA, PhD (Barcelona, 1953). Her career spans university teaching and involvement in public and private projects in Art and Architectural Heritage Recovery. She has taught and conducted research at Spanish and international universities: BCA Program at the University of Barcelona, University of Almería, International University of Catalonia (Barcelona), and University of Montevideo (UM). Her work includes heritage rehabilitation programmes and public restoration projects such as the monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, the monastery of Santa María de Ripoll, Romanesque churches in Andorra, and 17th-century buildings in Barcelona. She is affiliated with cultural heritage associations including "Amics de Gaudí" (2010–2024); collaborator on the Magistri Mediterranei project (UAB); and research advisor to "Amics de Josep M. Jujol". Current activities include academic research, publication, and seminars on Art and Architectural Heritage at universities and cultural institutions nationally and internationally, alongside consulting work in Barcelona, Tarragona, Madrid, and León.
