High tea and lecture: Storm in a teacup
About the event
Once considered 'liquid gold', tea has shaped global trade, sparked conflicts and helped advance women's independence. Enjoy a lovely morning at the Art Gallery and discover the fascinating history of tea in this talk, presented by Joyce Morgan. Find out how the practice of drinking tea evolved from a rare luxury into the European tradition of high tea. After the talk, enjoy a delicious sparkling high tea in the function room of Naala Nura, overlooking the Sydney suburb of Woolloomooloo. Joyce Morgan is a journalist and author. She is a former arts editor of The Sydney Morning Herald, a Getty Arts Journalism Fellow and has travelled widely in Asia. Morgan has led the Art Gallery members’ tours to Java, India, Bhutan, Uzbekistan and China. Image: High tea at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, photo, Penny Clay
