Welcome to the *History and Society Circle* part of the Social Book Club! Each month, we meet to talk about a book chosen by you!
This month’s book is: The cosmos of a 16th-century miller (The cheese and the worms) by *Carlo Ginzburg* (translated by *John Tedeschi*) (160 pages). To join, you should have read the book. It's okay if you didn't have the time to finish:)

Book description:
One of the most famous microhistory books. It tells the strange and fascinating story of Menocchio, a 16th-century miller put on trial for his religious beliefs. He was not simply following Catholic or Protestant ideas: he built his own strange view of the world from books, conversations, and his own imagination. He was put on trial for his beliefs, and through the trial records, the author shows the relationship between ordinary people in the past and what their churches or rulers told them. At the same time, it shows how dangerous it could be to speak openly against the Church during the Counter-Reformation. Menocchio’s story is unique because we get to hear the thoughts of one ordinary person, and the book asks us to think about how much of history is lost when ordinary voices are never recorded.
