This exhibition highlights the challenges faced by Muslims from the LGBTQ+ community. Discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, and/or gender identity is common in this context. The exhibition provides insight into their struggle to be themselves within various cultural and religious contexts. You will discover how faith and identity intersect. This exhibition consists of 6 stories from 7 people who are all queer Muslims. A few individuals are depicted anonymously; there are several different reasons for this. Explore the world of Muslim LGBTIQ+ people Muslims from the LGBTQ+ community often face discrimination based on their ethnicity, religious beliefs, and their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Their struggle goes beyond an internal dialogue. They grapple with questions about how they fit into their environment at all, and what happens when you are also struggling with your gender identity? Binary thinking still prevails too often; you are expected to make a choice. You are either queer or you are Muslim. Discover stories about faith and identity But being queer *and* Muslim? Those two supposedly don't go together in one sentence. But who are these people who are both queer and Muslim? What can they tell us about their culture, beliefs, and sexual orientation and/or gender identity? And above all, what can we learn from these people? This exhibition shows exactly the opposite and presents stories of people who unite both identities. The exhibition consists of six portraits of people sharing their personal experiences. A number of them are depicted anonymously, as this is a conscious choice for various reasons. Inspiring perspectives and dialogue The exhibition seeks answers to important questions: How do people shape their religious beliefs and sexual orientation or gender identity? And above all, what can we learn from their resilience and wisdom? Be inspired by these unique stories and contribute to an open dialogue about inclusion and diversity. Admission is free.
