2.Book: The Autobiography of Red

What happens when an ancient mythical monster is reimagined in the modern world? Anne Carson’s Autobiography of Red transforms the ancient Greek myth of Geryon—a red, winged creature—into a deeply moving, contemporary story of adolescence and self-discovery. As Geryon grows from an isolated, sensitive child into a young artist, he navigates the pain of intense first love, heartbreak, and the struggle to define his place in a world where he feels fundamentally different. Written as a novel in verse, this celebrated masterpiece blends poetry, myth, and photography to explore how we process emotional trauma, record memory, and capture the true nature of the self.
