Starting at historic Copley Square and concluding at the magnificent Christian Science Plaza, we’ll explore classic architectural landmarks, reflection pools, city lights, and traffic motion - all at a relaxed, instructional pace. HIGHLIGHTS: • Duration is 3 - 4 hours • Main stops featuring historic and modern architectural icons • Sunset, blue hour, and full night photography • Minimal walking distance with frequent extended shooting stops • Hands-on tripod techniques and composition tips • One-on-one instruction from two top-tier photographers WHAT WE WILL PHOTOGRAPH • Boston Public Library • Trinity Church bathed in golden hour and evening light • The Grand reflection pool and dramatic architecture of the Christian Science Plaza at night • High-rise reflections and streetscapes • Dynamic traffic light trails across urban intersections WHAT YOU WILL LEARN • How to transition smoothly from daylight to night shooting • Camera settings for sunset, blue hour, and night photography (ISO, aperture, shutter speed) • Using shutter speed creatively (motion blur vs. sharp detail and long-exposure light trails) • Creative composition techniques for architecture, leading lines, symmetry, and reflection • Balancing ambient twilight skies with bright artificial city lighting • Tripod technique, sharpness control, and night focus strategies EQUIPMENT • Any camera with manual exposure controls (DSLR, Mirrorless, or advanced compact) • Standard zoom lens (e.g., 24–70mm / 18–55mm); a wide-angle lens is also handy for dramatic architectural angles • Tripod: Strongly recommended for crisp long exposures during the blue hour and night portions • Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate layers for a cool late-September evening PARKING & PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION • Public Transit: The starting location (Boston Public Library) is right next to the Copley Station on the Green Line and a short walk from Back Bay Station (Orange Line / Commuter Rail). The ending point at Christian Science Plaza is a short walk to the Symphony (Green Line E) or Massachusetts Ave (Orange Line) stops. • Parking: Paid parking garages are available nearby at 100 Clarendon Street Garage, Prudential Center Garage, or Copley Place Garage. This workshop is open to all skill levels — whether you just bought your camera or have years of experience, Dmitriy and Steve will offer personalized instruction to help you elevate your photography.
