Ricardo Islas, 74 Mins, Terror Vision, Uruguay In Spanish with English subtitles. In a small colonial town, an ancient vampire rises from the ground and starts terrorizing everyone – soon the whole place is littered with bodies. But this is only the beginning of the nightmare of CROWLEY which will claim many, many victims before the dreadful truth at its heart is exposed. Ricardo Islas was 17 when he made this by-and-large lost and forgotten vampire epic in Uruguay and it’s only thanks to the efforts of those crazy masterminds at Terror Vision (especially Brad Henderson) that we can enjoy this as complete a version as there will ever be in the relative comfort of the cinema. Truly a one-of-a-kind shot-on-video horror artifact, CROWLEY is a love letter to the movies, to making things no matter what obstacles may stand in the way and to the myth of the vampire: ever-enduring and seductive.
