About the Event
This workshop invites participants to explore the rich sonic environment of Queenstown Library and its surrounding neighbourhood through active listening, soundwalking, and field recording. Together, we will tune into the subtle rhythms, textures, and resonances that shape the library's sonic architecture, from the quiet ambience of its interior spaces to the sounds of the surrounding natural environment.
Listening is more than simply hearing; it is an active practice of attention that shapes how we experience and remember a place. By approaching listening as a process of memory and recollection, participants will discover how familiar sounds can evoke personal stories, emotions, and connections to the library and its surrounding neighbourhood.
Throughout the workshop, participants will collect and record sounds that hold personal significance or recall memories associated with the library or Queenstown. These recordings will be brought together into a collaborative sound collage, weaving individual experiences into a shared sonic portrait of place. Through listening, recording, and collective composition, the workshop encourages reflection on the relationships between sound, memory, place, and community.
