AAWA 35 Reading & Writing Workshop
About the event
Founded in 1991 by acclaimed writer, educator, and cultural visionary Randee Eddins, AAWA has empowered generations of writers to tell their stories with courage, authenticity, and purpose.
This special anniversary Reading & Writing Workshop, facilitated by Rajnii Eddins, son of the founder and a lifelong member of AAWA, will feature readings from the works of Randee Eddins alongside Rajnii’s own acclaimed writing, reflections on the organization’s enduring legacy, meaningful dialogue, and inspiring writing prompts designed for writers of all ages and experience levels.
As attempts continue to erase, diminish, and distort the histories, voices, and contributions of people of African descent, gathering to read, write, remember, and create together becomes a profound act of cultural preservation and collective affirmation. For 35 years, AAWA has demonstrated that our stories are not only worthy of being told—they are essential to understanding our shared humanity and envisioning a more just future.
Come celebrate the vision of Randee Eddins, honor the generations who have carried this work forward, and help write the next chapter of a living literary legacy. Whether you are a lifelong writer, an emerging storyteller, or simply someone who values the power of words, you are warmly invited to join this celebration of history, imagination, resilience, and Black joy.
Honoring Legacy. Celebrating Brilliance. Writing Our Freedom. Asé.
We thank our partner African-American Writers’ Alliance.
