Chitarra Battente Performance and Workshop

Enjoy a special encounter with Alessandro Santacaterina, one of the most distinctive contemporary interpreters of the chitarra battente, the historic string instrument of southern Italy.

Alessandro reimagines the ancient Calabrian chitarra battente through virtuoso playing, original composition and subtle live electronics. Open to musicians, students, families and lovers of Italian culture and traditional music, this special event offers a rare opportunity to experience Calabria’s musical heritage at close range, first through conversation and learning, and then through a contemporary performance that takes one of Southern Italy’s oldest instruments confidently into the future.

Presented by CO.AS.IT. and the Segmento Tarantella Festival.
