About the event

Where are Our Bees from October to March? Washington is home to MANY species of bees. But we don't see them after September--where are they? In this talk, biology professor Steven Clark will share the very different (from humans) and very interesting life of our native bees. In addition to talking about where bees are, this talk will address bee stings, why most bees don't live in hives and many other fascinating traits of native bees.

Steven Clark is a professor emeritus of biology at Clark College and currently manages Clark’s Bee Campus. Throughout his career, he shared his passion for teaching to students from kindergarten through college. He has degrees in psychology, religion, Deaf education and environmental science. Steven researched the endangered western pond turtle in the Columbia Gorge. Since 2010, he has participated in research led by preeminent pika scientist, Dr. Erik Beever, and helps lead Oregon Zoo’s Cascade Pika Watch. Steven is Vice President of the Washington Native Plant Society and he loves his volunteer work with University of Washington Rare Plant Care. For Oregon Fish and Wildlife, he and his wife, Cherie Kearney, survey sage grouse leks each spring. Left with free time he can be found running on a steep, wooded trail with his dog, Phoebe.

This program is in person in the Cascade Room at the Mountaineers (7700 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle) & also will be live streamed via Zoom at 7:00 PM. It will be recorded for later viewing. For information on how to sign up for Zoom, please register in advance for this webinar on our event page: [https://www.wnps.org/cps-events/where-do-native-bees-go-in-the-winter](https://www.wnps.org/cps-events/where-do-native-bees-go-in-the-winter)

Stewart Wechsler, our Botanist Fellow, will host a plant ID workshops prior to this program at 6:30 PM. In addition to any plant samples the chapter botanists bring, attendees are welcome to bring in plant samples for identification.

David Hutchinson of Flora and Fauna Books will be bringing a selection of nature books of interest to our members for sale.
