Summerween: True Crime Edition with Eve Lazarus and Aaron Chapman
About the event
We’re bringing the chill to the city with local authors Eve Lazarus and Aaron Chapman who will walk us through the city’s underbelly after dark and BC’s cold cases. From the infamous Babes in the Woods and BC’s Highway of Tears to exploring the gritty history of the West End in the 1970s and '80s, learn about what uniquely positions Eve and Aaron to do the investigative work they do to write such compelling books. They will be in discussion with moderator John Ackermann (former 1130 NewsRadio co-anchor) and tackle the hard questions around the dark side of Vancouver and why there are so many unsolved murder cases in BC. --- Eve Lazarus is a reporter, author and the host and producer of the Cold Case Canada true crime podcast. She has written 11 non-fiction books, including BC bestsellers Cold Case BC, Vancouver Exposed, Murder by Milkshake and Blood, Sweat, and Fear. Her books have been shortlisted for several awards including the Arthur Ellis Award; the City of Vancouver Book Award, and BC Book Prizes. Eve’s latest book is Beneath Dark Waters: The Legacy of the Empress of Ireland Shipwreck. He is the author of Vancouver After Dark: The Wild History of a City's Nightlife, winner of the Bill Duthie Booksellers' Choice Award (BC Book Prizes) in 2020; The Last Gang in Town: The story of Vancouver's Clark Park Gang, Liquor, Lust, and the Law: The Story of Vancouver's Legendary Penthouse Nightclub, (now available in a second edition), Vancouver Vice: Crime and Spectacle in the City's West End and Live at the Commodore: A history of the Commodore Ballroom that won the Bill Duthie Booksellers' Choice Award (BC Book Prizes) in 2015 (a new edition appears in 2023). He has sat on the board of the Friends of the Vancouver Archives since 2015, and is a member of Heritage Vancouver. In 2020 he was elected as a member of the Royal Historical Society. He lives in Vancouver. John Ackermann is a familiar voice on Vancouver’s airwaves with more than two decades of experience in news, both on-air and behind the scenes. Most recently, he co-anchored the afternoon drive program on 1130 NewsRadio. He also hosts The Bookshelf Podcast on Substack, highlighting local nonfiction authors and their work. --- You don’t have to wait until October to celebrate the communal spirit of Halloween.
