Mendelssohn: Sonata No. 2 for cello and piano, Op. 58, Liszt: Elegy No. 2 Tanguy: Évocations (2010) Dohnányi: Sonata for cello and piano, Op. 8
Mendelssohn’s Second Cello Sonata sets the evening in motion with brilliant piano writing and expansive cello melodies. Liszt’s Second Elegy offers a quieter, more intimate encounter, followed by the lyrical Évocations by contemporary French composer Éric Tanguy. Dohnányi’s Sonata closes the programme with the warmth and exuberance of his early chamber music.
