
Young V&A Textile Takeover - Home Education Day (Autumn 2026)
About the event
Step inside a textile studio for the day! Learn new techniques from inspiring artists, designers and makers, including weaving, pattern cutting, knitting, heat pressing and more. Activities will be led by inspiring artists, designers and makers, including: Becky Sloan: Becky is a film maker specialising in costume, puppet design and set design and is the co-creator of the surreal puppet series Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. Her vibrant work uses a wide range of textile making techniques and repurposing everyday items. Dalia James: Dalia is an artist and designer. As a handweaver, the connection between her and the cloth she creates is essential to her practice. Rooted in a sustainable practice that explore natural dye techniques Dalia’s work focuses on colour and geometry and explores the relationship between the two. Christie Swallow: Christie is an artist and designer. They engage with play as a method and ecology as a subject. Christie is currently Young V&A's Designer in the Shed, they are tackling the bird housing crisis by making architecture for birds, exploring, fabric, cork and waste materials. This event is aimed at home educated learners aged 7-11. Activities will take place in the Portal Trust Community Room, Open Studio and The Shed. Booking is essential. • All learners need to be accompanied by an adult throughout your visit. Please book a ticket for every person who will attending, including adults and siblings. • You will receive an automated email to confirm your provisional booking, followed by an email with an MSForm to complete to confirm your booking. If you have any queries, please get in touch on yvaschools@vam.ac.uk • You can arrive whenever you like and leave whenever you need to within the timings of the event: 10.30am - 3pm, with a break from 12.30 - 13.15. All activities are drop-in. • As part of your visit, you are welcome to explore our permanent galleries: Play, Imagine and Design. • We will have a dedicated quiet space as part of the event, which you are welcome to use whenever you need. • If you no longer wish to attend, please let us know in advance so we can release your tickets for other groups.
