Abstract
The ocean holds immense diversity, from charismatic megafauna to microscopic life. Microbes (e.g., plankton, bacteria and viruses) may be the least visible, but they dominate the ocean and are central to the structure and function of marine ecosystems. In this seminar, I will introduce our studies of marine “giant” viruses that infect phytoplankton, as well as our bacterial and viral surveys of a seaweed ice-ice disease (IID).
