Women in Translation Month is a project meant to highlight works by women writers that were originally written in languages other than English. Meetup is currently having some problems with links, but if you are interested, there is a website for the project that you can find by searching for "Women in Translation Month." For this event please bring a work of fiction that was written by a female author, and has been translated into English. However, I know that we have many members who have native languages other than English, so you are also more than welcome to bring a book that has not been translated as long as it is in a language other than English and was written by a woman, Please only attend if you will bring a book that suits the topic. Do you want to talk about the books that you read, but don't have any bookish friends? Do you want to take part in a book club, but don't want to have to read a specific book? Did you just read a great book and want to tell someone about it? If so, then this might be the book club for you! I noticed that all of the English language book events that I could find in Tokyo were the classic style of book club, where everyone reads the same book and discusses it. Instead, I'm hoping to start a book club that's more similar to a Japanese-style "dokusho-kai", where everyone can bring a book that they just read or an old favorite and introduce it to the group. I want to create a space where English native speakers and non-native speakers alike can talk about their favorite books in English. All you need to do is bring a book that you want to talk about! (Please note that as is implied by the name of the group, I ask that you bring a work of fictionー no business books, etc.) What to expect on the day of: ・4:30pm-4:35pm: check in and get comfortable ・4:35-4:40: self-introductions ・4:40pm-6:20pm talk about your book ・6:20 pm: clean up and get ready to go home Location: Near Nippori station (I have rented a conference room, and will share the exact address with participants the night before) General rules: ・Please keep it positive, if you don't like one of the books, please keep it to yourself ・Discussions are encouraged, but please don't talk over others or hijack someone else's turn to give your opinion on their book ・Works of fiction only! ＊Please note that all types of harassment, violent or abusive language, actions that don't respect the privacy of other participants, and any kind of networking for business, religious, or any other purposes are strictly forbidden.
