Join Tim to commemorate the 360th anniversary of the Great Fire of London, the greatest catastrophe to hit London since Boudicca.
We’ll follow in the footsteps of Samuel Pepys from his home where he first spied the fire to where it was finally extinguished. It raged for four days and destroyed 70% of the City of London and the great majority of its churches. We’ll look at the rebuilding that took place and in particular the role of sir Christopher Wren which gave London a skyline that lasted 300 years and made it a recognisably modern city.
We’ll also examine some of the myths that surround the fire and who the blame was pinned on. We’ll end (obviously) in a great London pub to celebrate London’s survival.
