Is this your event?About the event
Zuihitsu —“following the brush”—is a thousand-year-old Japanese literary form built on association rather than argument. One thought moves naturally into the next without needing justification: an observation, a memory, a complaint, a moment of tenderness, all in the same breath and without apology. In this hands-on workshop, a brief introduction to the tradition is followed by guided writing exercises exploring concepts like okashi (delight in the small and curious) and mono no aware (the tender ache of passing beauty). No experience with writing or Japanese literature required—everyone is welcome. *** Keiko Honda is the author of Words That Last, Hidden Flowers, and Accidental Blooms. *** This program is supported by the Friends of The Vancouver Public Library, a community of library lovers who volunteer, fundraise, and advocate i n support of the Vancouver Public Library. The Friends also operate book’mark, The Library Store, on the main level of Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library. *** Accessibility: VPL is committed to making our programs accessible for all. If you have an access need that we have not addressed here, please email us at programs@vpl.ca. Elevator access to the Alice MacKay Room is available in the concourse near the bank machine.
