Tru Thoughts x Tate Modern: WheelUP + Oliver Night
About the event
Join us in collaboration with Tru Thoughts for a new midweek series bringing together DJs, selectors and live projects exploring jazz, soul, electronic and global sound
Curated in collaboration with Tru Thoughts, the series introduces a rotating programme of DJs and selectors designed for drop-in listening rather than formal performance, with each evening moving between focused sets and an open environment.WheelUP is the broken beat project of producer and DJ Danny Wheeler, rooted in the soulful West London sound and shaped by his early experiences of jungle, drum & bass and pirate radio. Drawing on the area’s rich Black British musical heritage, Wheeler has developed a distinctive sound spanning broken beat, soul and electronic music, releasing with Tru Thoughts and performing with his live band at festivals including Worldwide and We Out Here.Joining him is Oliver Night, a London-based DJ, producer and vocalist known for his deep, dubby and soulful take on broken beat. A Tru Thoughts artist, his work combines groove-led production with distinctive vocals, with releases including Between The Lines and collaborations across the label’s eclectic roster.About Tru ThoughtsTru Thoughts is an acclaimed, independent UK record label founded in Brighton in 1999 by Robert Luis and Paul Jonas.
