If you have been wanting to learn how to play chess but never quite knew where to start, this gathering is for you. We are hosting a casual afternoon for total beginners to learn the basic rules, how the pieces move, and the fundamental goals of the game. This is not a competitive environment, so please do not worry if you have never touched a chess set before. We will keep things relaxed and slow-paced so everyone has a chance to ask questions and get comfortable with the board.
We will provide boards and a few handouts to help you remember the basics after the event. The goal is simply to demystify the game and meet some neighbors who are also interested in picking up a new hobby. We will have plenty of time for practice rounds and peer-to-peer learning in a supportive setting.
