Speakers & topics

1. OAuth token exchange for API environments with Budha Bhattacharya

Auth is always very helpful knowledge: we'll talk about how implementing OAuth Token Exchange enables API gateways and microservices to securely translate, scope, and delegate user identity context across cross-domain boundaries without exposing sensitive credentials or over-privileging downstream services.

Budhaditya (Budha) Bhattacharya is the Director of Product Ecosystem at Tyk, an API management and gateway platform. In his role, he leads product education, developer advocacy, ecosystem expansion, and the adoption of open standards.

2. FinOps vs. Engineering: Does Anyone on Your K8s Team Actually Care About Cost? with Greg O'Hare

Kubernetes workloads are elastic and portable, which makes for fuzzy cost accountability meaning nobody knows who owns the bill. That fuzziness turns responsibility into a game of hot potato, which hinders optimization efforts across organizations.

This talk explores where cost ownership actually lives, and who ends up holding the bag on engineering teams. Then we’ll discuss if and when automated remediation is trusted on real infrastructure.

Greg O'Hare is an Enterprise Solutions Engineer at PointFive, where he helps enterprises uncover and act on remediating cloud waste. He has spent over a decade at the intersection of cloud cost management and FinOps, with solutions engineering and technical leadership roles. A former technical trainer turned sales engineer, Greg is at his best translating complex cloud economics for engineering and finance audiences alike.

3. Apache Kafka on Kubernetes with Strimzi with Kyle Liberti

Strimzi makes running Apache Kafka on Kubernetes look deceptively simple: describe the cluster you want in YAML and let the Operator take care of the rest. But what really happens after the Kafka cluster is up and running? In this talk, we'll go under the hood and follow Strimzi's reconciliation loop as it issues TLS certificates, performs rolling updates, and coordinates partition rebalancing across the cluster, all without dropping messages. No Kafka experience is required. We’ll see what it takes for the Operator to turn that simple YAML declaration into a reliable Kafka cluster, where every update requires careful coordination of state, security, and load across multiple brokers.

Kyle Liberti is a software engineer at IBM, following nine years at Red Hat. He focuses on integrating Kubernetes and Apache Kafka, specializing in automated cluster rebalancing. Kyle is also a regular upstream contributor to open-source projects like the Strimzi Kafka Operator and Cruise Control for Kafka.
