About the event

**Want to speak more Japanese—but feel nervous?** This workshop is designed for people who want to **start speaking Japanese in a relaxed, supportive environment.** Even if you know only a few words—or **no Japanese at all**—you are very welcome. With only **three participants**, everyone has plenty of opportunities to speak, ask questions, and build confidence at their own pace. Our goal is simple: **You'll leave thinking, "I actually spoke Japanese today."** \-\-\- **Learn Japanese Through Art** Practice Japanese in a way you can't experience in a classroom. Spend 80 minutes inside **Picaresque Gallery**, a contemporary art gallery in Moto-Azabu, where original artworks become the starting point for meaningful conversations. Instead of memorizing grammar or vocabulary, you'll observe contemporary artworks, share your own thoughts, feelings, and ideas, and discover new ways to express yourself in Japanese. Rather than aiming for perfect Japanese, we'll help you communicate what you **want to say with confidence**. \-\-\- **Not Another Language Exchange** Many language meetups spend most of the time introducing yourself over and over again. This workshop is different. Instead of repeating self-introductions, you'll enjoy guided conversations inspired by contemporary artworks. The artwork naturally gives everyone something to talk about, making conversations easier and more engaging. Whenever you need help, the facilitator will support you in English and help you express your thoughts in Japanese. \-\-\- **Why You'll Enjoy This Workshop** ✔ Only **3 participants**, so everyone gets plenty of speaking time ✔ Complete beginners are warmly welcome ✔ English support whenever you need it ✔ Practice real Japanese through conversation—not memorization ✔ Express your own thoughts and feelings in Japanese ✔ Experience a contemporary art gallery while improving your Japanese Because the group is intentionally small, you'll have time to think, speak, ask questions, and participate without feeling rushed. Whether you communicate in Japanese, English, or a mixture of both, you'll be supported every step of the way. \-\-\- **Event Information** **Date** Friday, August 14, 2026 **Time** 7:00 PM – 8:20 PM (80 minutes) **Venue** Picaresque Gallery B1, 2-11-6 Moto-Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo **Participation Fee** ¥2,000 **Capacity** Maximum 3 participants **Language** Simple Japanese with English support **Recommended Level** All levels welcome — especially beginners. \-\-\- **Workshop Flow** **19:00 – 19:15 (15)** Welcome & warm-up conversation **19:15 – 20:05 (50)** Observe contemporary artworks and enjoy guided conversations in Japanese **20:05 – 20:20 (15)** Reflection and group sharing Within a few days after the workshop, you'll receive a personalized reflection sheet with comments from the facilitator, so you can continue learning even after the workshop ends. \-\-\- **About the Facilitator** **Keiko Kato** is an internationally experienced Japanese language educator. After earning her Master's degree from Kyoto University, she worked in international business before pursuing her passion for Japanese language education. She has taught Japanese and intercultural communication in Malaysia, Taiwan, and the Philippines, helping learners build confidence through meaningful interaction rather than memorization. Beginning this autumn, she will continue her research in Japanese language education at the Graduate School of Japanese Applied Linguistics, Waseda University. Her workshops combine academic expertise with a warm, welcoming atmosphere where every participant is encouraged to think, communicate, and discover new perspectives through dialogue. **Keiko Kato Official Homepage** [https://keiko-nihongo.carrd.co/](https://keiko-nihongo.carrd.co/) **Instagram** [https://www.instagram.com/japanese.conversation.lab](https://www.instagram.com/japanese.conversation.lab)
