2025 marks 80 years since the end of World War II, a pivotal moment in global history. To commemorate this significant anniversary, the museum presents Secret Strike – War on Our Shores focusing on the dramatic events of the Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour. This exhibition offers a unique view of this wartime event, featuring the stern section of the midget submarine M22 and voice pipes from the ill-fated HMAS Kuttabul. Explore the story of the raid, view historic images depicting the aftermath of the attack, and hear first-hand accounts of how this event impacted the lives of everyday Australians. This exhibition is supported by the USA Bicentennial Gift Fund. Please note, this exhibition is located in Wharf 7, adjacent to the main Museum building and is not open on weekends or public holidays.
