An unforgettable film about friendship, addiction and the attempt at a new life. Showing at Lab111 Amsterdam. Discover the dark side of Edinburgh
In bleak Edinburgh, you follow five addicts. This film by Danny Boyle, known for Slumdog Millionaire, shows Cool Britannia at its best. Trainspotting tells the story of the unemployed Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) and his friends, who color the dull Edinburgh of the 90s with beer, going out, drugs, and football.
An escape attempt
Mark tries to leave his drug past behind and build a new life in London. But his friends and his past continue to haunt him. The film takes you into the darkly hilarious drug world of Renton, Begbie, Spud, and Sick Boy, backed by the music of Underworld's 'Born Slippy', Iggy Pop's 'Lust for Life', and songs by Blur and Pulp. Experience the raw reality of the 'dirtiest toilet in Scotland' and the rise of Tony Blair's neoliberal 'Cool Britannia', where grab what you can get became the morality.
