Indonesian artist and storyteller Agus Nur Amal creates work rooted in local oral traditions, transforming everyday objects into settings and characters. Through TV Eng Ong—an improvised "television program" housed in a cardboard frame—Agus brought comfort and attentive listening to children and families in temporary shelters following the 2004 tsunami. His practice demonstrates that storytelling, including narratives of hardship, serves as a means to process experience and provide care for both listener and narrator alike. This workshop draws on that simple yet powerful gesture: turning a box into a theatre and one's own life story into visual narrative. Over four sessions, participants will visit the exhibition, select and develop a life story (their own, a family member's, or from their community) and construct a paper box-theatre to tell it. She holds a master's degree in performing arts and puppet theatre from the USA and has studied storytelling within oral traditions of world cultures under master teachers from Brazil, Africa, the USA, Canada and England. She creates original and commissioned performances for institutions, individuals and companies. She has performed internationally in Russia, Serbia, Canada and Argentina and received multiple awards. She taught narrative studies at Rudolf Steiner Faculdade de Pedagogia. She translated and accompanied Agus Nur Amal's workshops and presentations during his visit to Brazil this year.
