You may be asking yourself, what is Yacht Rock?
Yacht rock is a genre of music that emerged in the 1970s and peaked in the early 1980s. It is characterized by its smooth, polished sound, reminiscent of the soft rock and pop music of that era. The term "yacht rock" was coined in the 2000s by music critics and enthusiasts to describe the style of music often associated with sailing, luxury, and a laid-back coastal lifestyle.
Yacht rock songs typically feature lush arrangements, smooth melodies, and sophisticated production techniques. The lyrics often focus on themes of romance, leisure, and escapism. Artists commonly associated with yacht rock include Christopher Cross, Steely Dan, Toto, Michael McDonald, and Kenny Loggins, among others.
Despite not being a widely recognized genre during its heyday, yacht rock has experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years, with fans celebrating its smooth sound and nostalgic appeal. There are even dedicated yacht rock radio stations, playlists, and events like Harbour Nights that celebrate this unique musical style. Get on board!
