SDI Full Face Mask Class
About the event
Ever wondered what it's like to dive with a full-face mask? Here's your chance to find out.
Full face masks aren't just for commercial and public safety divers. They offer a completely different diving experience: they cover your entire face, eliminate the need to hold a regulator mouthpiece in place, provide extra protection from cold water, and, with appropriately equipped masks, even let you communicate underwater.
In this SDI Full Face Mask Diver Specialty course, you'll learn how to safely set up, use, and dive a full face mask, then put those skills to work during two open-water dives. This isn't just a class where we talk about the equipment. You're going diving in it.
During the course, we'll cover: • How full face masks work and how they differ from a traditional mask and regulator • Proper setup, fitting and adjustment • Equalization techniques • Buoyancy considerations when diving a full face mask • Clearing a partially flooded mask • Removing and replacing the mask underwater • Responding to a free-flowing mask • Switching from a full face mask to your backup half mask • Emergency procedures and alternate-air-source use • Underwater communications for masks equipped with communication systems
Most importantly, you'll get time underwater to get comfortable diving with a full face mask, rather than simply trying one on at the surface.
Not ready to purchase a full face mask? You can still take the course. Students may dive with their own full face mask or purchase one through the dive shop. If you're not ready to buy one yet, we also have a limited number of full face masks available to rent for the course.
This is a great opportunity to experience diving with a full face mask and decide whether you want to add one to your dive gear.
Prerequisite: Open Water Diver certification or equivalent. Students must also bring a conventional half mask to use as a backup.
Class size is limited to just 4 divers.
If you've been curious about full face masks, want to add something completely different to your diving, or simply want an excuse to try a new piece of dive gear, this is a great opportunity to experience one while learning how to use it safely. Successful completion earns the SDI Full Face Mask Diver Specialty certification. Ready to give it a try?
You must call and confirm with the shop to reserve your spot and mask (if needed). With only four spots available, sign up early if you want to join us.
