Jason Sutherland will examine the Canadian health system’s experience with long-stay hospital patients and how these cases reflect system pressures and affect funding and patient outcomes. Hospitals have faced challenges with Alternative Level of Care patients for decades, and the problems are largely unaddressed. This presentation was originally given in August 2026 at the Evolution of the Care Economy Summit in Sydney, Australia.
