Imagine walking through the front door of a Lower East Side tenement and stepping into the lives of the immigrant families who once called it home. Not famous people. Not wealthy New Yorkers. But ordinary families who came to America searching for opportunity—and built their lives inside crowded tenement buildings like 97 Orchard Street. For this very special Social Club event, we have arranged a private 75-minute guided tour exclusively for only 15 of our members at the renowned Tenement Museum. We’ll explore the remarkable stories of two immigrant families who lived at the same address during two different chapters of New York City history.

AN ITALIAN IMMIGRANT FAMILY
Years later, another immigrant family would make its home at the same address. The Baldizzi family, immigrants from Sicily, arrived during a very different period in American history. Their story introduces us to another chapter of immigration—the challenges of finding work and housing, raising a family, maintaining cherished traditions, and building a new life in America. Despite their different backgrounds and the different periods in which they arrived, the Rogarshevskys and Baldizzis shared many of the same hopes, hardships, and dreams.

A JEWISH IMMIGRANT FAMILY
The Rogarshevsky family came to New York from Eastern Europe and made their home at 97 Orchard Street during the early years of the 20th century. They arrived during an extraordinary period when unprecedented numbers of immigrants were coming to New York City. The Lower East Side became one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in the world. Within these tenement walls, families lived, worked, cooked, celebrated, struggled, worshipped, and raised their children. Through the Rogarshevskys’ story, we’ll explore the experience of Jewish immigrants building new lives in New York while navigating work, family, religion, community, and the rapidly changing city around them.

This tour isn’t simply about dates and historical events. It is about how people actually lived.
