Before Jacques Demy (1931-1990) had his first big successes ( Lola, 1961; Les parapluies de Cherbourg, 1964), he learned the filmmaker’s trade by making short films. In fact, his experience went back further; as a fourteen-year-old, Demy had a Pathé Baby camera, then an Ercsam camera and projector – some time later, he joined a cinema club in Nantes.
