Cuatro Mujeres: Nina Simone’s Four Women at Humboldt

Old Town School of Folk Music’s Community Ventures department is presenting a four part NOITP summer series that will explore Nina Simone’s jazz composition, “Four Women”, a scathing critique of the injustice and suffering endured by Black folks in the United States and beyond. The series will feature four performances in South and West Side parks, each centered on one of Simone’s archetypal women.This 60-minute performance places Simone’s Saffronia in dialogue with Oshun, a feminine Orisha from the Afro-Cuban Lucumí tradition. This special diasporic exploration features D-Composed and Frog Belly Society with choreography by Edson Cabrera.
