🔆 Join Professors Will Fithian and Wes Holliday for a conversation about the feasibility of an international pause on frontier AI training. They’ll explore the technical, political, economic and practical challenges involved: What exactly would a “pause” mean? How could it be verified and enforced? What incentives might lead countries and companies to participate? And is international coordination on AI development realistic?

● Professor Will Fithian (University of California, Berkeley) is an associate professor in the Department of Statistics. His research interests include post-selection inference / selective inference, scalable algorithms for massive data sets, multivariate analysis and dimensionality reduction in large data sets, methods for stable estimation and inference in heavy-tailed data, ecological statistics and microecology data, and theoretical and applied statistics. ● Professor Wes Holliday (University of California, Berkeley) is a professor of philosophy, working mainly in logic and social choice theory. In logic, his research has ranged over modal and nonclassical logic, logic and natural language, and logic and probability. In social choice theory, he has focused on voting theory, computational social choice, and applications of social choice to AI ethics and safety. ● Together, Professors Fithian and Holliday co-organize a working group of academics studying the feasibility of an international pause on frontier AI training.
