A masterclass in the art of the horror movie remake. Ask anyone to name the scariest movie ever made and many will answer with Tobe Hooper's 1974 film THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE. A near-perfect classic that still terrifies viewers to this day, it's the kind of untouchable holy ground of a film that no one ever wanted to see sequelized, much less remade. Of course, Hollywood never met a perfect film (or franchise) it didn't want to squeeze a few extra dollars out of, so nearly 30 years after the release of the original we were given Marcus Nispel's 2003 remake. Despite the many odds stacked against it, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE wound up being a massive commercial success, paving the way for the slasher remake horror boom of the 2000s.
