About the event
Cellist Filip Krzeszowiec, together with the Matangi Quartet, places Vladimir Martynov's Schubert Quintet (Unfinished) alongside Schubert's String Quintet. In doing so, he demonstrates how one of the greatest chamber music works ever written continues to inspire new music. Cellist Filip Krzeszowiec
For his Moving Talent program, cellist Filip Krzeszowiec has chosen one of the greatest masterpieces of chamber music: Schubert's String Quintet in C. Taking this monumental work as a starting point, he explores how a composition still inspires artists and sparks new musical ideas nearly two centuries later. By juxtaposing Schubert's String Quintet with a contemporary composition, Filip Krzeszowiec invites the audience to listen with fresh ears—not only to Schubert's music, but also to the enduring influence this masterpiece exerts on composers of today.
Martynov's ode to Schubert's String Quintet
Vladimir Martynov's Schubert Quintet (Unfinished) forms the heart of this program. In this serene composition, Martynov writes a musical contemplation of Schubert's String Quintet. With the same instrumentation, recognizable motifs, and a meditative sound world, the result is not an adaptation, but a new work that approaches Schubert's masterpiece from a contemporary perspective. By placing Martynov's contemplation directly alongside Schubert's String Quintet, it becomes audible how one of the greatest chamber music works ever written continues to live on. The result is a concert in which Schubert's music not only sounds but also demonstrates how it continues to inspire new music.
