TROMSØ WORLD: MODAL TRAFIKK (Norway)

Bergen grooves gone fully cosmic

Genres: Afrobeat / Global groove / Electronic fusion

Modal Trafikk creates the kind of music that feels increasingly rare: fully alive, deeply rhythmic and completely built around collective movement. What started as one of Norway’s strongest afrobeat bands has evolved into something far broader and more unpredictable — a powerful fusion of African rhythms, Latin American grooves, psychedelic textures and electronic club energy.

Drawing inspiration from everything from maracatu and afropop to house, trap and psychedelic rock, the Bergen-based ensemble has built a sound that refuses to stay inside genre boundaries. Their music balances precision and looseness at the same time: tightly played grooves colliding with raw live energy and a constant sense of forward motion.

Since releasing their debut album Fabrique in 2023, Modal Trafikk has quietly developed cult status in underground music circles while building a formidable reputation as a live band. Their concerts are known for stretching into ecstatic marathon sessions where rhythm, improvisation and crowd energy feed into one another until nobody wants the night to end.

With a stellar lineup of musicians and an infectious stage presence, Modal Trafikk turns every show into a celebration of groove, release and collective joy.

At Tromsø World 2026, they bring cosmic dancefloor energy from Bergen north for a concert guaranteed to move both body and mind.
