📌 Talk 1: Build Invincible Apps with Temporal (and Spring Boot) Abstract: Delivering typical business applications today often feels complex. We adopt microservices and distributed architecture for agility, but we pay a massive tax in development and operational complexity. Suddenly, developers are forced to write custom retry loops, complex distributed sagas, and state machines just to ensure a standard business process doesn't fail silently. The result? Slower time-to-market, brittle infrastructure, and a massive spike in developer cognitive load. What if you could write code that simply resumes exactly where it left off when a failure occurs? In this talk, we'll explore the concept of Durable Execution and how Temporal abstracts away the heavy lifting of building reliable distributed systems. We'll discuss how it helps engineering teams build "invincible" (highly reliable) applications while drastically reducing both development boilerplate and day-two operational headaches. We'll also dive straight into the IDE for a live coding session using Java and Spring Boot. We will take an existing "traditional" application flow that is vulnerable to partial failures and refactor it into a Temporal workflow. You'll see firsthand how to handle retries, timeouts, and compensation logic gracefully without the usual spaghetti code.

Prior to Temporal, Henry was a senior engineering leader at fintech startups, including Head of Engineering at LXA Capital (acquired by CapitaLand Investment) and VP Engineering at Flip.id, and was part of Google Cloud's Professional Services team. He also hosts Tech Lead Journal, a podcast with 250+ episodes featuring conversations with thought leaders on technical excellence and engineering leadership.

📌 TALK 2: Building a Durable Agent with OPUS Abstract: Taking an agent from an impressive demo to a production system introduces a new set of challenges: What happens when an agent fails halfway through a task? How do we manage workflows that may run for minutes, hours, or days? How do we retry safely, maintain state, coordinate multiple agents and services, and understand exactly what happened when something goes wrong? In this session, the GovTech OPUS team will share how they are approaching durable agents on their visual orchestration platform — AI agents don't simply respond to prompts, but participate in durable, multi-step processes that interact with internal services.
