HERO! HITO!
Tracing an eleven-year journey from the heartbreak of a defeat in 2013 to a stunning world championship in 2024, HERO! HITO! tells the rise of Chinese Taipei, the team that represents Taiwan in international baseball competitions, to their first-ever world title at the WBSC Premier12. Blending high-definition match footage with intimate player interviews, the film recreates the most thrilling moments of the historic tournament. It is not just a film about baseball; it is a letter written to Taiwan, capturing a story of victory, belief, and a nation united behind its team. Will the underdogs complete their miraculous run to the crown?
Before The Bright Day
Set against the backdrop of the 1996 Taiwan Strait Crisis, BEFORE THE BRIGHT DAY is the poignant directorial debut of Shih-Han Tsao, capturing a young man’s turbulent coming-of-age. Chou, labelled a “B-class loser” by his teacher, yearns for more than his uneventful adolescence, especially with Min, the girl he admires, placed in the elite A-class. Disillusioned by his bleak home life, Chou idolises a small time gang leader, Button. But as political tensions rise and his family’s finances crumble, Button leaves for the military, Min’s family may emigrate from the threat of war, and Chou is caught in an act that threatens expulsion. Drifting without direction, can he navigate a society on edge, where youthful dreams and harsh realities collide?
Deep Quiet Room
After his pregnant wife Yi-ting takes her own life, widower Yu-ming struggles to hold himself together while caring for his late wife’s father, who is gradually showing signs of dementia. Telling the story from the widower’s perspective rather than the victim’s, the film follows Yu-ming’s desperate attempts to understand the emotionally distant Yi-ting and uncover the reason behind her mental breakdown and her contentious relationship with her father. As he sifts through memories, Yu-ming realises there were red flags he missed along the way. Veteran documentarian Shen Ko-shang, in his feature directorial debut, delves deep into the psychology of trauma, grief, and the painful search for answers that may be more than one can bear.
